Steve Court replaces Tobin as Majority Leader

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX (April 28, 2011) – State Representative Andy Tobin is the new Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives. Representative Steve Court will replace him as House Majority Leader.

A Republican from Paulden, Speaker Tobin was elected Thursday by his peers, bringing a diverse business background and wide-ranging life experience to the job. Tobin called former Speaker Kirk Adams a “friend” and praised his leadership of the House.

“Kirk’s leadership was key to our tremendous successes this year, and we intend to stay on that winning path. My prayers and best wishes are with Kirk and his family,” Speaker Tobin said. “I am truly honored to have the support of the Republican caucus as we continue to address some of the most difficult challenges Arizona has ever faced and fight to preserve our freedoms. We will continue to debate the federal government over states’ rights and federal overreach. We will keep the state budget balanced, making sure we don’t bury our children in more debt under the guise of helping them – all the while only handing them the bill and interest payments. I also want to thank my wife Jennifer and my kids for all their support as I take on this great responsibility.”

Meet Andy Tobin:

Born in Manhattan and raised on Long Island, Mr. Tobin moved to Arizona in 1979 and spent 14 years in the banking and real estate mortgage loan business in Phoenix, working through the saving and loan crisis. His business experience ranges from the aerospace and manufacturing industries to banking, finance, insurance and marketing. He was CEO of a local aerospace company employing 200 people for three years.

Mr. Tobin currently lives in Paulden, a small community north of Prescott in Yavapai County, where he owns small business specializing in employee benefits and commercial insurance.

Elected to the Legislature in 2006, Mr. Tobin represents District 1 – a sprawling rural district that encompasses Sedona, Williams, the Verde Valley and the Prescott Tri-city area. He’s the first rural Speaker of the House since former Speaker Jake Flake.

As Majority Leader, Mr. Tobin was instrumental in the legislative successes this past session, helping to author and pass a truly balanced budget, pension reform and the Jobs Bill. Prior to being elected Majority Leader in January, he was House Majority Whip for two years – elected after only one term in office.

A mainstream, common-sense conservative, Mr. Tobin is a member of the Chino Valley and Prescott Valley Chambers of Commerce, the Arizona Rifle and Pistol Association, the Rotary, the Eagles and the Knights of Columbus.

His leadership as a legislator has been recognized by a diverse number of groups. Former vice-chairman of the House Education Committee, Mr. Tobin was selected as the Arizona School Board Association’s Freshman Legislator of the Year in 2007 and the School Superintendents Association Legislator of the Year in 2008. The Arizona Chamber of Commerce has also recognized him as a Legislator of the Year and the Arizona Small Business Association named him Legislator of the Year in 2008 when he received the highest score of any lawmaker ever.

Speaker Tobin has been married to his wife Jennifer for 25 years and has five children, ages 16 through 24. Mr. Tobin has been a soccer, basketball and t-ball coach.

Last – but certainly not least – Speaker Tobin is a devoted Yankee’s fan, but promises he rooted for the Diamondbacks during the 2001 World Series.

Subject: abuse of power by Congress and the White House.

If the White House, the Senate and Congress possessed any intestinal fortitude at all you would stop paying interest to China and when they inquire as to why they are no longer receive the money from the United States, suggest they collect the money from the countries around the world who owe us the United States.
As reported by Fox news (The five) perhaps one third of the funds used for Obama care were stolen from the Social Security trust fund or the Medicare trust fund with little regard to those individuals who are eligible to participate in these programs, Which Are Not Entitlement Programs. Please stop this practice out of the White House and Congress to confuse the American public by referring to them in this manner.
Combining these savings with no more foreign aid, the amount of money available to use here in the United States would be jaw-dropping. You should all be profoundly ashamed of yourselves for not doing what your constituents voted you into office to do on their behalf.

All foreign aid must be discontinued effective immediately to all foreign countries with the exception perhaps of Israel. You continue with these feudal, attempts to buy friendships around the world. You were elected to office to do our bidding, not to enhance your own pitiful political careers and personal agendas.
You must stop sending the American taxpayers money to foreign countries that hate us and wish to harm us due to their indifference to our way of life here in the United States. Also, what is the endgame regarding these insane practices of borrowing money from China?
It would appear from the various news media outlets that our first black, Muslim, Socialist, Marxist, and Communist President of the United States wishes to take us down the same path as Argentina and Greece, this absolutely defies all logic.

It would also appear that the majority of individuals who would like to see Pres. Obama reelected to a second term are by and large those on the government dole, Anglo Americans who are ill-informed, ill-advised and suffer from inherent guilt. The majority of blacks in the country will blindly vote for president Obama solely because he is also black.

    Respectfully,
    In my humble opinion,
    JJ, Prescott Valley, Arizona, USA

    Dear Mr. Tobin:
I am 100% in favor of the bill that was presented yesterday in Arizona to require all individuals running for office to prove their eligibility by submitting legal documentation. I am also 100% in favor of citizen’s recourse should it be known that anyone running for office has submitted falsified documents.
This measure will weed out all those of a criminal nature.
Congratulations on being the first State to pass this bill.
